Birthing with Pride
A Birthing From Within Prenatal Class for Queer Families
We are proud to offer expectant queer families a safe and nurturing space in which to explore their unique journey into parenthood. Birthing With Pride is offered at Pomegranate Community Midwives in east Vancouver.
Birthing From Within prenatal classes are both informative & transformative—meeting the needs of your Heart and Mind in preparation for birth and parenthood. Cost is $260 (+ hst) per couple. If you have any questions, please contact us.
- Affirming our unique journey to parenthood
- Understanding the stages of labour & birth
- Learning and practicing pain-coping approaches
- Creating a supportive environment in the home or hospital
- Affirming partner's role and needs
- Birth fears, cesarean birth, and informed consent
- Baby care basics & breastfeeding
- Postpartum health and transition to parenthood
Next class: September 30th - October 2nd (Friday 7-9:30, Saturday 9-4, and Sunday 9-1) with Abby.
Interested? We are gathering names with the hope of getting a minimum of 3 families to run the class (one family so far!). Please contact us here and we will do our best to bring this class to life. To ensure your needs are met, we encourage you to also register for one of our Birthing from Within prenatal classes - if this class runs, then we will simply transfer your registration and payment over to the Birthing with Pride prenatal class.
Abby Mikkelson
Abby is a birth doula, former La Leche League leader, mother of three and Birthing From Within mentor. She came to Birthing From Within in 2004 while preparing for the birth of her third child and found the approach seeped into her life on many levels. She now practices as a birth doula and mentoring prenatal classes. Learn more about her doula services here.
